The corridor zone design

Writer: Ola HamdanOla Hamdan

I concentrated on designing this zone this semester as it is the most atmospheric design in the building, and the lighting cases in this zone are challenging.

The tallest wall in this zone is made out of glass, and it faces the west direction, which gets the highest amount of heat during the day, so I had to find some solution to control the received amount of sun.

The first solution is using Micro-louvre and tinted film to reduce and control the incoming light, as ultraviolet can cause damage to the artwork.

The second solution is the Mashrabya which is a type of balcony or upper-floor window in the shape of tiny reticular patterned openings. It has been used in Palestinian buildings before; I tried to do it in a contemporary design here, but I didn't like the result!
